Tips for Getting the Money

Moving Toward The Money

  1. Build the "Fact File" about your agency or business.

  2. Describe your funding objectives in three to five sentences.

  3. Identify sponsors whose funding criteria match who you are.

  4. Ask those sponsors how best to compete for their money.

  5. Allow triple the time you think you need to write the grant.

  6. Plan the grantwriting as rigorously as you would any major project.

  7. Proof the grant application repeatedly before submitting it.

  8. Submit any grant proposal at least two weeks before the sponsor's deadlines.
